Lampton School Newsletter: Week 26 2025-26

Posted on Mar 23rd 2026

Monday 23rd March 2026

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the eleventh, and final, week of the spring term. It is week A so whole school assemblies are taking place. These are being led by me and students, focusing on Ramadan, Eid, Lent, Easter and the current conflict in the Middle East as well as looking back over the successes of this term.

On Thursday 26th March we look forward to welcoming year 11 and their families to school for their final parents’ evening. This is a vitally important occasion prior to the examinations beginning on Tuesday 5th May. A reminder to students in both year 11 and year 13 that the next two weeks is not a holiday for them. They must use each day productively to revise. Staff have given extensive advice and resources to support this over the last few weeks.

Students in years 7, 8 and 9 will also be sitting examinations when we return after the break. These will be in their core subjects of English, mathematics and science. It is important that students revise fully as the results from these assessments will be used to inform set changes for the new academic year starting on 2nd June.

The spring term ends for students in all year groups on Friday 27th March at 12.30. There will be lessons as usual during periods 1, 2 and 3. The summer term begins on Monday 13th April with registration at 10.00 and then lessons as usual from period 2. It will be week A.

I wish all members of our community a restful holiday. Eid Mubarak to those who celebrated the festival at the end of last week and a Happy Easter to those who will be marking this festival during the break.

With best wishes,

Stephen Davis

Headteacher

Year 11 Parents’ Evening – Thursday 26th March

We look forward to meeting the parents of year 11 pupils on Thursday.

We consider it vital that all parents attend parents' evening. If you have not already made appointments to see your child’s teacher please contact sbasu@lampton.org.uk and she can make appointments for you. Please check your emails for a schedule of appointments.

Please arrive five minutes before your first appointment and sign in; you will be given a pack containing your child’s report and other important information. Please keep to the appointment times. This helps to ensure the efficient running of the evening for all parents.

Finding out more about how well your child is doing at school

Are you interested in finding out more about how well your child is doing at Lampton School? We are launching the MCAS portal and app in the summer term. Parents and carers can use these to find out their child’s attendance, timetable and behaviour information. We will trial the MCAS portal and app before we launch it to parents of pupils in year 8. Would you like to trial it before we launch it to parents of pupils in year 8? If you would please email aleggett@lampton.org.uk with your name and your child’s name and tutor group. We will be trialling it with the first 30 parents to email. Below is an image of what the MCAS portal looks like.

Key Stage 3 Assessments and Revision

In April, students in years 7 to 9 will be completing key stage 3 assessments in their core subjects. These assessments help teachers check how securely students have learnt the curriculum and identify any areas that need further support. All subjects assess knowledge taught in lessons, and students are expected to complete revision in advance.

In school, students are being taught how to revise effectively using a simple Plan → Do → Review approach, which focusses on short, focused revision and self-quizzing rather than re-reading notes.

Further information about key stage 3 assessments and how parents can support revision at home is available here. Below is the timetable for the key stage 3 assessments in core subjects

Meningitis

You may have seen recent news reports regarding a "national incident" declared by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) following a meningitis outbreak centred in the Canterbury area of Kent.

There are no cases of meningitis at our school, nor are there any confirmed cases in our immediate local area. The UKHSA has explicitly stated that this is not a national outbreak; rather, it is a localized cluster being managed with national resources to ensure the swift distribution of medicine.

However, as a matter of precaution and to ensure our community remains informed, I would like to share the current public health guidance.

How the Infection Spreads

It is important to understand that meningitis does not spread "like wildfire" or in the same way as a respiratory virus like Covid-19.

  • Prolonged Contact: Experts, including the Director of Public Health, have emphasised that it takes prolonged, close contact (such as living in the same household or intimate kissing) for the bacteria to spread from person to person.
  • Sharing Items: Public health officials have highlighted that the bacteria can be passed through the sharing of items that come into contact with the mouth. In a modern context, this includes the sharing of vapes, as well as drinks or toothbrushes. Please reinforce with your children the dangers of sharing these items.

Symptoms to Watch For

Meningitis can initially look like a common flu or "pink eye" (red eyes). Please remain vigilant for the following symptoms:

  • High temperature/fever
  • A severe headache
  • A stiff neck
  • A dislike of bright lights
  • Drowsiness or extreme lethargy
  • In some cases, a red/purple rash that does not fade when a glass is pressed against it (though a rash does not always appear)

Our Precautions

While the risk to our students remains exceptionally low, we are taking the following steps:

  • Reinforcing hygiene messages regarding handwashing.
  • Reminding students of the health risks associated with sharing items such as drinks.
  • Monitoring attendance closely for any unusual patterns of illness.

The government is not advising schools outside of the immediate affected cluster to close or change their daily routines. Our school remains fully open and operating as normal. If you have any specific concerns about your child’s health, please contact NHS 111 or your GP. Further information can also be found on the NHS website.
