We understand that the transition from primary to secondary school is a crucial staging point in a students' life, and so work closely with our new pupils, new parents and carers, and primary schools to ensure that our new Year 7 students are best supported.
Through the primary transition process, we aim to ensure that:
As a school we know students as individuals, and understand their academic, social and emotional development so our level of support and challenge can be matched to their needs.
New pupils feel confident about the start to their secondary schooling: they know the values of the school, the key policies and routines and so know what to expect in September.
New parents and carers feel confident about sending their child to the school. Any administrative issues are taken care of in advance of September to ensure a smooth and successful start.
Please see below for an outline of the process for primary transfer:
On Tuesday 2nd June parents and carers will be emailed with a link to form to submit important information, and to agree to important school policies. If you have not received this email, or have any difficulties with the form, please email our Admissions Officer, Anju Dhir firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 07922 535 456 from 8am to 3pm.
The meeting is an important opportunity to get to know you and your child, and for you to ask any questions about the school in advance of the new academic year. For students starting in September 2020, these meetings can either take place in person at school (with social distancing measures in place) or virtually, using Google Meet (video conferencing). We will be in touch from the week beginning Monday 15th June to arrange a time and place.
Primary transfer day and parents' information evening:
Unfortunately due to the challenges of socially distancing this year, we will not be able to run our primary transfer day as usual. Instead, we are currently compiling a guide for new parents and carers, and will run an online event in lieu of the parents’ information evening - this will take place on Tuesday 7th July at 7pm - more details will be sent to new parents and carers. If you have any questions about the process, please do email the Head of Year 7, Ms Hanan Mahmoud email@example.com. Please also the see the updates page from Ms Mahmoud for the latest news on primary transition for September 2020.
Google Classroom - online transition activities:
To help students know more about the school before formally joining in September, we have invited all students onto our virtual learning environment, Google Classroom. This provides a safe online space for students to get to know the school, the staff and other students, and we will be posting regular activities and updates for our new Year 7 students. Login details have been sent to new parents and carers, and if you have any questions please do contact Ms Mahmoud.
