Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the third week of the autumn term 2026. It is week A with whole school assemblies taking place. These are being led by me and focusses on the celebration of our examination success while also reflecting on the impact of the summer’s heat waves and how we will respond to such challenges in the future as a school and global community.

A reminder that Tuesday 15th September is our annual open evening for students transferring to Lampton in September 2027. Last year we received the highest total applications of any secondary school in Hounslow, and were the only secondary school with an increase in the number of first preferences. Great evidence that Lampton is a highly regarded and successful school in our community with a long-standing track record of success. If your child is helping during the evening, you will have received information separately. As a reminder, school closes for students in all year groups at 12:30 on Tuesday. We reopen at the usual time of 08:40 on Wednesday 16th September.

Please note that school will also close at 12:30 on Thursday 24th September for staff training at our school improvement afternoon.

Year 8 and Year 9 Examinations 

Year 8 and Year 9 students will shortly be completing their internal examinations. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learnt and to identify areas where further improvement is needed. We therefore encourage all students to prepare carefully and revise regularly in advance of the examinations.

Teachers will be setting revision-focused independent learning in the weeks leading up to the exams. Students should complete this carefully and use the Knowledge Organisers and subject-specific revision materials available on our website: https://www.lampton.org.uk/378/subjects

Learning how to revise effectively, as well as becoming familiar with examination routines and expectations, is an important part of students’ development. By establishing these habits in years 8 and 9, students will be better prepared for the demands of formal examinations later in their school careers, including GCSEs and A Levels.

Examinations in the core subjects of English, mathematics and science will take place under formal examination conditions in the school hall. Assessments in other subjects will take place during normal lesson time over the same week.

Students should ensure that they arrive fully equipped for exams. They should bring all the appropriate equipment including pens, pencils and a ruler. They should approach each assessment seriously and make every effort to prepare thoroughly.

Results from these examinations will be communicated to parents as part of the next pupil progress check. The results will also help teachers identify areas for further support and, where applicable, will contribute to decisions about setting in core subjects.

 

Careers at Lampton School

Could you share your experience of the world of work with our students? What do you know now that you wish you had known when you were younger? Would you like to give something back and help young people understand the opportunities available to them? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Following the success of last year's careers events, including year 10 work experience, year 11 You Can Do Day and Year 12 Futures Day, we have an exciting programme planned for 2026–27:

• 20^th November 2026 – You Can Do careers fair for year 11
• 9^th December 2026 – Careers workshops for years 7 and 8
• 20^th January 2027 – Careers workshops for years 9 and 10
• 15^th June 2027 – Futures day for year 13
• July 2027 – Work Experience for year 11

Careers education is no longer something that is simply covered as students approach the end of school. It is now an integral part of learning from year 7 onwards, with students exploring how what they learn in the classroom connects to the world of work.

Flu vaccination consent forms

Children in school will be offered a free NHS flu vaccination this autumn. Most children receive a quick nasal spray vaccine. A gelatine-free injectable vaccine is also available for children who cannot have the nasal spray, or where parents choose this option.

Parents/carers of children in school will shortly receive an email asking for consent. Please complete the consent form to avoid delaying their child's vaccination. If you have any questions, please contact the Vaccination UK team in Hounslow
