Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the fourth week of the autumn term 2026. It is week B with year assemblies taking place.

Last week’s open evening on Tuesday 15th September was a very successful event. Thank you to all the students who came and supported the event as guides and helpers. We received excellent feedback from visitors and our students were great ambassadors for the school.

I am pleased to report that as a result of the Edurio survey which we completed in the summer term our school has received a national award. We have received this in two categories: Parent Feedback in Action Award Secondary and Parent Partnership Award Secondary. We were in the top 10 schools in these categories out of 37 000 respondents to the Edurio survey across the country. A great achievement and accolade for Lampton!

Please note that school will close at 12:30pm on Thursday 24th September for staff training at our school improvement afternoon.

PE Extra-Curricular Clubs Are Underway!

This term’s free PE extra-curricular clubs are now up and running! students can take part in badminton, girls’ Netball, boys’ & girls’ football, and boys’ & girls’ basketball.

All clubs run after school from 15:30 until approximately 16:30. Students must wear full PE kit and will be dismissed directly from the changing rooms at the end of the session.

Club timetables and changing room locations are available on year group Google Classrooms and on posters in the changing rooms.  Dedicated Google Classrooms for each club will be created shortly, with formal registers beginning on Monday 21 September.

Year 8 and Year 9 Examinations 

Year 8 and Year 9 students will shortly be completing their internal examinations. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to demonstrate what they have learnt and to identify areas where further improvement is needed. We therefore encourage all students to prepare carefully and revise regularly in advance of the examinations.

Teachers will be setting revision-focused independent learning in the weeks leading up to the exams. Students should complete this carefully and use the Knowledge Organisers and subject-specific revision materials available on our website: https://www.lampton.org.uk/378/subjects

Learning how to revise effectively, as well as becoming familiar with examination routines and expectations, is an important part of students’ development. By establishing these habits in years 8 and 9, students will be better prepared for the demands of formal examinations later in their school careers, including GCSEs and A Levels.

Examinations in the core subjects of English, mathematics and science will take place under formal examination conditions in the school hall. Assessments in other subjects will take place during normal lesson time over the same week.

Students should ensure that they arrive fully equipped for exams. They should bring all the appropriate equipment including pens, pencils and a ruler. They should approach each assessment seriously and make every effort to prepare thoroughly.

Results from these examinations will be communicated to parents as part of the next pupil progress check. The results will also help teachers identify areas for further support and, where applicable, will contribute to decisions about setting in core subjects.

 

Careers at Lampton School

Could you share your experience of the world of work with our students? What do you know now that you wish you had known when you were younger? Would you like to give something back and help young people understand the opportunities available to them? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Following the success of last year's careers events, including year 10 work experience, year 11 You Can Do Day and Year 12 Futures Day, we have an exciting programme planned for 2026–27:

• 20^th November 2026 – You Can Do careers fair for year 11
• 9^th December 2026 – Careers workshops for years 7 and 8
• 20^th January 2027 – Careers workshops for years 9 and 10
• 15^th June 2027 – Futures day for year 13
• July 2027 – Work Experience for year 11

Careers education is no longer something that is simply covered as students approach the end of school. It is now an integral part of learning from year 7 onwards, with students exploring how what they learn in the classroom connects to the world of work.
