Monday 12 May 2025

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the fourth week of the Summer Term 2025. It’s Week B, so year assemblies are taking place.

On Friday 9th May we said farewell to year 13 students and today the first whole cohort GCSE examination for year 11 has taken place - an indication that we are now well and truly in public examination season. Year 11 will be remaining in lessons between exams until the end of the half-term on Friday 23rd May. We look forward to celebrating students’ success on their respective examination results days in August.

Tuesday 13th May sees year 10 celebration evening taking place and this week year 12 are undertaking their pre-public exams, so a busy week for not just those in year 11 and year 13. Year 7 parents’ evening is on the horizon on Thursday 22nd May from 4-7pm.

A reminder that, before half-term parents/carers of students in the current years 7,8 and 9 will be receiving a letter about how their classes will be determined in the core subjects of English, mathematics and science for next academic year starting on 2nd June. Students will be grouped by attainment in these subjects rather than in mixed attainment groups. This decision has been made in the best interest of supporting all students to make exceptional progress. The details of this change will be highlighted in the letter which will be sent by email before the half-term break.

Key dates for the coming weeks:

Tuesday 20th & Wednesday 21st May Primary Transfer interviews
Thursday 22nd May Year 7 Parents’ Evening
Friday 23rd May  School ends at 3:10pm for the half-term break
Monday 2nd June  INSET Day - school site closed to students
Tuesday 3rd June   School starts for the new academic year at 08:40

With best wishes for the week ahead.

Access to school from 08.00

The school opens to students from 08:00 each morning and we welcome students to use the library and the playground until registration begins at 08:40. There is no access to the school before 08:00 except for specific activities where invited students will be met by a member of staff at the gate.

Student wellbeing

The school’s catering provider, Cucina IFG, has shared a guide on healthy eating for exam success, handy for all but particularly useful for families of Y11 and Y13 students.

Please read information from the Hounslow School Nurses team about skincare in the sun, and mental health awareness.

Guides for how to support young people with Autism

Here are two useful guides, one for parents and one for students which give an overview of autism, some of the challenges faced by young people with autism and strategies to support young people overcome some of these challenges.  These guides can be used to gain a better understanding of autism and are a useful tool to help parents and students talk about autism in a structured and supportive way.

Safeguarding information

Please see an important link for supporting your child when they are using Roblox. It is really important to have these discussions with your child and actively monitor how much time they spend using their phones, gaming and using social media sites. You can implement time limits to support your child.
