Lampton School - Week 29

Posted on Apr 29th 2024

Monday 29th April 2024

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the third week of the Summer Term 2024. It’s Week A with whole school assemblies taking place led by Mr Pavey (Assistant Headteacher) focusing on the theme of standing out from the crowd.

It was great to welcome so many Y8 families to our Celebration Evening last Tuesday - it was a superb event with a fantastic atmosphere. My congratulations to all award winners and my thanks to Mr Bugembe (HoY 8) and the tutor team. Our next event is for Y10 on Tuesday 14th May starting at 4.30pm with refreshments in the canteen.

This week sees the practical components for GCSE examinations starting, especially in Art and 3-D Design; speaking exams in MFL are taking place on Saturdays. This signals the start of the Public Examination season. In the Y11 assembly last week, students were briefed about our expectations of them during lessons when the exam season begins - they must complete revision tasks in silence and no mobile devices may be used. Please support your child in ensuring that they have appropriate revision resources for this period which starts after the Bank Holiday week.

With best wishes for the week ahead and a reminder that school will be closed for the Bank Holiday on Monday 6th May, but resumes at the normal time on Tuesday 7th May.

Stephen Davis

Safeguarding briefing - substance abuse

It is well known that adolescents like to experiment, push boundaries and take risks - and it should be no surprise that this often manifests itself in substance abuse.  Teenagers may view the consumption of alcohol, tobacco and / or illegal drugs as part of growing up. At school, we seek to educate students about the risks of such behaviour through the tutor programme and PSHE. It’s also important as parents / carers to know about the potential type of illegal drugs that children today may have access to. The website Talk to Frank is a good place to start. If you are concerned about the safety of wellbeing of your child or any other, please do contact the safeguarding team safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.

Cinco de Mayo fiesta in the Dining Hall!

On Tuesday 7 May we will be celebrating the Mexican festival of Cinco de Mayo with a tasty range of themed street-food in our Dining Hall. Think lime, chilli and coriander with smoky flavours and exciting textures, all served with halal, non-halal and vegetarian options. Do you like your nachos classic and savoury, or quirky and sweet? Explore the full menu here and discover it for yourself next Tuesday!

Upcoming Parent Carer Forum

London Borough of Hounslow’s young people’s sexual health advisors are hosting an upcoming Parent-Carer forum for families with children with SEND. This is an informal drop in for those who would like to be supported to have conversations around sexual health, relationships and other matters.

Young Hounslow Sexual Health will be online from 10-11am on 9 May. Please share this information with your parents and carers, and email the service for how to join the session. More details can be found here:
