Lampton School - Week 29

Posted on May 2nd 2023

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the third week of the Summer Term 2023. It’s Week A, so our whole school assemblies are taking place.

Last Tuesday saw our Y8 awards and celebration evening take place and it was wonderful to welcome so many families to school for the event. We are now looking forward to the Y9 and Y10 evenings which are taking place on Tuesday 16th and 23rd May respectively. I look forward to seeing a large number of families then too!

Next Monday - 8th May - is the additional Bank Holiday for the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. As I said to students in assembly during the first week of term, this is an important and historic event in the life of our nation and students should make time to engage with the event, just as so many did with the funeral of the Late Queen Elizabeth II. We return to school as usual on Tuesday 9th May with registration at 8.40am.

The Public Examinations are rapidly approaching and below you can find details of the last assembly for Y11 and our uniform donation scheme.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Arrangements for end of Year 11

This week marks the penultimate week of teaching for students in advance of the Year 11 GCSE examinations on Monday 15th May. Once examinations commence, lessons will focus exclusively on revision at the direction of subject teachers. Before each examination, there will be a pre-exam meeting: an important opportunity for teachers to remind students of key strategies for the examination.

All students will also need to hand in their mobile phones to Student Services - if they fail to do this and bring a phone into the examination, we have no choice but to refer them to the exam board and they will likely be disqualified. Due to the proliferation of internet enabled watches, students may not wear a watch.

On a more fun note, students will have a leavers’ assembly on their final day in school on Thursday 25th May (the school will be closed for an INSET day on Friday 26th May), and Year 11 prom will take place in July.

Safeguarding briefing - domestic abuse

We know that at any time, some of our students will witness domestic abuse. Domestic abuse does not always involve violence, it can also include attempts to control, bully or threaten a domestic partner. Witnessing domestic abuse is child abuse: the impact of witnessing domestic abuse can be complex and profound, and students will need support which we will help to arrange. If you are the victim of domestic abuse and / or your child has witnessed this abuse, please do get in touch with the safeguarding team. We will signpost support for you and support your child’s social and emotional needs. Please contact the safeguarding@lampton.org.uk

It's important to remember domestic abuse:

  • can happen inside and outside the home

  • can happen over the phone, on the internet and on social networking sites

  • can happen in any relationship and can continue even after the relationship has ended

  • both men and women can be abused or abusers.
