Lampton School - Week 34

Posted on Jun 6th 2022

Monday 6th June

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our weekly update for the seventh week of the Summer Term 2022 and the start of our new academic year. All year groups will be promoted and start their new timetables as of tomorrow, Tuesday 7th June. This is particularly exciting for Y10 who will start their GCSE option subjects and Y11 as they enter their last year of the GCSE course. The new year group zones will come into effect tomorrow too and ID cards are now compulsory for access to the canteen.

As a school we are focusing together as we start the new year on presentation of written work and exercise books. Our expectations will be outlined in our year assemblies this week and we would really appreciate your support in ensuring that all exercise books and written work is presented in line with our new expectations.

I hope that you all had a relaxing half-term break and were able to enjoy, or indeed participate in, some of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee events last weekend. Last term Mr Leggett led our whole school assemblies on this theme and encouraged us all to take advantage of being part of this historic occasion in some way.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Exam arrangements - Year 11

Now that Year 11 students are on study leave, students should come in at 8.25am for morning examinations and 12.55 for afternoon examinations, so that they are ready for the pre-exam meetings and have time to hand in their phones. Some students may have two exams on one day - where this is the case, following on from the morning exam supervised study facilities will be available (in the library and / or 6th Form centre). These students will be expected to stay on site, unless you have emailed Mr Smale with your permission for your child to return home to revise.

Educational visits and activities

As we enter the final half term of the year, and we can plan ahead with confidence, we are keen to offer students as many opportunities to learn outside the classroom as possible. All students will be taking part in the whole school walk around Osterley Park on Wednesday 13th July, and towards the end of the half term there will be a year group sports day, with all students taking part in a range of sporting activities.

Educational visits that happen during the school day are usually ‘curriculum’ trips, which help students learn outside the classroom. If your child is due to attend such a trip, we will let you know via email. If you do not want your child to attend this trip, then you will need to contact the trip leader. We will be offering a range of trips, and try to minimise costs to parents and carers. Where we do need to charge, our policy is to request a voluntary contribution. If we are unable to cover the costs of the trip from parents and carers, we will have to cancel the trip. Students who are eligible for Free School Meals, or have been eligible during the previous five years, are also eligible for a 75% discount on the cost of the trip.

Uniform consultation

Thank you for your many responses to the school uniform consultation. It was evident from responses that as parents you value the current school uniform, and overwhelmingly agree that students look smart and ready to learn. We are now taking time to consider responses from parents, students and staff on the issues raised and we will give feedback to parents before the end of the term on any changes for September 2022.
