Lampton News - Week 31

Posted on May 9th 2022

Monday 9th May

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our weekly update for the fourth week of the Summer Term 2022. It’s Week B, so year assemblies are taking place this week and our praise focus continues to be reflectiveness.

It’s great to see that our enrichment programme continues to get back up to speed post-Covid with a group of Y9 students taking part in a residential visit to Jamie’s Farm near Bath for the whole week, a PSHE talk by TfL for students about keeping safe on public transport and at the end of the week Y8 will have the opportunity to be amazed by the ‘space dome’ just as Y7 were last week. I am so pleased that these opportunities are now once again possible and we look forward to more activities days in the second part of this term, including the return of our whole school sponsored walk around Osterley Park.

This week is the last of regular lessons for Y11 before the examinations begin. Mr Smale (HoY 11) will be leading a ‘good luck’ assembly on Friday and we wish all our students every success and advise them to use every minute wisely!

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Year 12 Exams

Year 12s started their pre-Public Exams today.  The students are off timetable for this week, and attending their exams in the Sports Hall to give them greater experience of the exams they will face in Summer 2023.  Students will be able to use these grades to guide their research over the summer, when considering their post-18 pathways. On Tuesday 7th June, Y12 students will have a day off timetable exploring their options for ‘Life after Lampton’, and there will be an online parents presentation in the evening - more details to follow.

Y11 Parents - uniform

Once students have completed all their exams they will no longer need their Lampton school uniform. To help support parents who are struggling with the cost of living crisis, we are keen to see that as much uniform can be recycled as possible. At the end of the final exams, we will ask students if they are willing to donate their blazers, ties, school bags and any other uniform that they (or younger siblings) no longer require. We will then wash and dry the uniform before making this available to students in younger year groups - more details to follow on this in future bulletins.

BP Engineering Challenge

The Y12 Engineering team have completed a 6 month project with engineers from BP looking at developing hydrogen technology to heat homes and businesses with zero net carbon emissions. On Thursday 5th May, Shravankumar, Puneeth, Vedasri and Sam delivered a professional presentation and report to impress a panel of experienced engineers, who remarked ‘Everyone was clear and they covered all of their bases really well! Great focus on economics, feasibility, design. Honestly engineering would be lucky to have any one of them as a professional!’. Well done team!

Safeguarding briefing

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, and this represents a time to focus on supporting people struggling with their mental health, and to support young people to develop habits, routines and dispositions that help to foster positive mental health. As a school we have recently expanded our support for students with poor mental health, employing a mental health and wellbeing officer. More details of the school’s support for students struggling with mental health can be found on our website. Charities Mind and the Anna Freud Centre also offer great support for parents struggling either with their own mental health, or supporting their children’s. If you are concerned about your child’s mental health and would like to discuss further support, please do contact safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.
