Lampton News - Week 18

Posted on Jan 17th 2022

Monday 17th January

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to the weekly update for the third week of the Spring Term 2022. There is important information below relating to changes to the self-isolation period which takes effect from today.

I can confirm that the Y9 Options Evening will take place virtually on Tuesday 25th January - further details can be found on the Y9 Google page. Y13 PPEs went well last week and we are now preparing for their online parents’ evening and the Y10 parents’ evening in the coming few weeks.

A reminder that Thursday 27th January is INSET day, therefore the school site will be closed.

We will update you further as to second dose vaccinations for students in school when these are confirmed by the NHS. In the meantime, the Hounslow Council website has information about walk-in vaccination centres for the 12-15 year age group. All Public Health advice is that vaccination is key to combating Covid.

Thank you for your on-going support and best wishes for the week ahead.

Headteacher

Changes to the self-isolation period for those who test positive for COVID-19

From Monday 17 January, people who are self-isolating with COVID-19 will have the option to reduce their isolation period after 5 full days if they test negative with a lateral flow device (LFD) test on both day 5 and day 6 and they do not have a temperature. For example, if they test negative on the morning of day 5 and the morning of day 6, they can return to their education or childcare setting immediately on day 6.

The first test must be taken no earlier than day 5 of the self-isolation period, and the second must be taken the following day. All test results should be reported to NHS Test and Trace.

If the result of either of their tests is positive, they should continue to self-isolate until they get negative results from two LFD tests on consecutive days or until they have completed 10 full days of self-isolation, whichever is earliest.

Anyone who is unable to take LFD tests or anyone who continues to have a temperature will need to complete the full 10 day period of self-isolation.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Library Section

We now have a dedicated section in the library focusing on student mental health and wellbeing. There is a wide selection of reading material which can support students. Please discuss with your child and encourage them to visit the library to look through the wellbeing texts.

American Football - Monday After School Club 3:15pm - 4:15pm

We are delighted to be working with the Big Kid Foundation who provide sports based opportunities to develop leadership skills in young people. The team runs American Football after school on Mondays 3:15pm - 4:15pm for all students. This is a fantastic opportunity to be coached by professional staff and to learn a new sport. This club is free to all Lampton students. Please speak to your child regarding this brilliant opportunity and encourage them to attend.

Year 7 & 8 Jr NBA basketball league bounce back - basketball update from Coach Mike

It’s been a two year absence due to covid since any schools in the UK have been able to take part in any Jr NBA basketball competitions. Monday 10th Jan 2022 saw the very first Jr NBA basketball tournament held at Twickenham School which featured hosts Twickenham School, Uxbridge Academy and Lampton School. Lampton took on Twickenham in the year 7 fixture winning with a final score of 43-6 with every player getting on the court and contributing to the team's victory.

The year 8 team were next taking on Uxbridge academy with both teams evenly matched. Lampton held a slim two point lead going into the last quarter, with a tough shot by Jibran putting Lampton up by four with no time left we held on to win with a final score of 15-11. Lampton then played the Twickenham school in their 2nd game of the afternoon. This time we had gotten over our nerves and played more like a team with good defending and good attacking basketball. Lampton school ran away with it in the end winning by a final score of 43-16.

It was a great day out in Twickenham for both year groups with everyone in high spirits and the good feel factor on the mini bus ride back.
