Lampton News - Week 6

Posted on Oct 4th 2021

Monday 4th October

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to the weekly update for the sixth week of the Autumn Term 2021.

The school is working with the Local Authority and the NHS regarding vaccinations for 12-15 year olds. When we have precise information, we will let you know as soon as possible. Covid infection rates in the 10-19 year old age group are increasing in Hounslow - please remember to continue with twice weekly testing at home.

Our annual Open Evening for students transferring from Y6 to Y7 in 2022 takes place on Wednesday 13th October. School will close for students that day at 12.30pm to allow staff to prepare for the event. On Thursday 14th October, registration will be at 9.00am.

As part of our focus on returning to the ‘new normal’ and setting high standards, we are focusing on matters of consistency. In particular, we are concentrating over the next fortnight on uniform to ensure that all students are complying with our expectations with respect to outdoor coats - i.e. these must be plain black for Y7-11. Hoodies/tracksuit tops are not permitted in any year group and will be confiscated. Coats must not be worn in classrooms, and this expectation applies to students in all year groups too. Thank you for your support with this.

With best wishes for the week ahead.

Stephen Davis

Safeguarding focus:

Next Sunday is World Mental Health Day, and we are keen to raise the profile of issues around mental health - both destigimatising discussion of mental health, promoting habits that help our mental health, and providing targeted support where required. On our website we have information for parents on both our strategies to help promote positive mental health, and how parents can support their child during the adolescent years: www.lampton.org.uk/642/social-emotional-health

We have also been recommending Kooth to our young people which is an online platform for mental health support: www.kooth.com and Anna Freud has many self help strategies written by young people for young people - look at the website On My Mind section to access lots of great advice:

Hounslow Community Awards:

We were thrilled to hear that our very own basketball coach,  Mike Kwentoh has been nominated for a Hounslow Community Award for his work, both on and off the basketball court, in supporting students to be the best they can be. More information can be found here! A very well deserved nomination, and we wish Coach Mike all the best for Wednesday’s awards ceremony.

Have you considered training to teach or do you know of anyone who is? Do you want to make a difference in young people’s lives?

Are you passionate about a particular subject?

The LWA SCITT provides opportunities to train to teach in local schools.

Our training routes are open to graduates with a first class or second class honours degree.

We welcome applications from career changers and recent graduates from universities.

We are particularly experienced in training suitably qualified teaching assistants or support staff already employed by a school wishing to become teachers.

Find out more about training to teach with us at the London West Alliance (LWA) SCITT through our ‘Get into Teaching’ information sessions.

Currently, we are running pre-booked sessions on Tuesdays. If you are interested in a visit, please e-mail to book a session in advance.

If you are unable to visit, but want to find out more, please contact us and we can discuss this with you  kalshawabka@lampton.org.uk
