Lampton School Newsletter: Week 6 2026-27

Posted on Oct 5th 2026

Monday 5th October 2026

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the sixth week of the autumn term 2026. It is week B with year assemblies taking place. These will be focusing on Black History Month with this year’s theme being ‘honouring our communities’.

This week year 8 and year 9 are sitting their core subject assessments in the sports hall. Please ensure that your child/children are fully equipped for these examinations. Next week, 12th October, year 13 will sit their first round of pre-public examinations (PPEs) followed by year 11 the week commencing 19th October. It is vital that students use these examinations as important preparation for the public examinations in the summer. While the summer may seem a long time away, the public examinations will be here very soon and success is only achieved through thorough preparation.

A reminder that the MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) app and portal will be available to all year groups after half-term. It is vital that parents/carers engage with this so that they can receive timely information about their child each day. A reminder that bookings for the year 9 parents’ evenings will take place using MCAS.

Over the coming weeks the weather will be becoming more autumnal and evenings getting darker. Please remind your child/children about road safety as the evenings draw in. A reminder that school coats must be plain black, as should neck scarves. Tracksuit tops and hoodies are not acceptable to be worn in place of a coat; such items will be confiscated and a community service issued.

Please see below for the key dates of activities this half-term:

Week commencing Monday 12th October  Year 13 pre-public exams (mocks)
Week commencing Monday 19th October  Year 11 pre-public exams (mocks)
Friday 23rd October Wellbeing Day 1: school closed
Monday 2nd November Wellbeing Day 2: school closed

With best wishes for the week ahead.

Year 8 and Year 9 Assessments and Years 10-13 Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs)

Responsibility is one of Lampton School’s character traits. This means doing the right thing even when somebody is not looking.  It is important that pupils learn to do the right thing at school so when they leave, they can be more independent.

Bringing the correct equipment to school every day means that pupils do not have to waste time waiting to be given equipment and allows the teacher to spend time teaching rather than giving out equipment.

To promote the importance of bringing the correct equipment to school every day, we will expect that pupils have the right equipment in their upcoming assessments and PPEs. If we have to lend pupils equipment, they will receive an after-school detention.

Please support the school by encouraging your child to check that they have the correct equipment before they come to school. They can get any equipment they need from the equipment school before morning registration. Below is an image showing the equipment a pupil needs to bring to school every day.

PE Extra-Curricular Clubs Are Underway!

This term’s free PE extra-curricular clubs are now up and running! students can take part in badminton, girls’ Netball, boys’ & girls’ football, and boys’ & girls’ basketball.

All clubs run after school from 15:30 until approximately 16:30. Students must wear full PE kit and will be dismissed directly from the changing rooms at the end of the session.

Club timetables and changing room locations are available on year group Google Classrooms and on posters in the changing rooms.  Dedicated Google Classrooms for each club will be created shortly, with formal registers beginning on Monday 21 September.

Careers at Lampton School

Could you share your experience of the world of work with our students? What do you know now that you wish you had known when you were younger? Would you like to give something back and help young people understand the opportunities available to them? If so, we would love to hear from you.

Following the success of last year's careers events, including year 10 work experience, year 11 You Can Do Day and Year 12 Futures Day, we have an exciting programme planned for 2026–27:

  • 20th November 2026 – You Can Do careers fair for year 11
  • 9th December 2026 – Careers workshops for years 7 and 8
  • 20th January 2027 – Careers workshops for years 9 and 10
  • 15th June 2027 – Futures day for year 13
  • July 2027 – Work Experience for year 11

Careers education is no longer something that is simply covered as students approach the end of school. It is now an integral part of learning from year 7 onwards, with students exploring how what they learn in the classroom connects to the world of work.

Whatever you do, there will be students at Lampton who could benefit from your experience, knowledge and advice.Whether you would be interested in coming into school to speak with students, running a workshop, or hosting a student for Work Experience, we would be delighted to hear from you. If you can help, please contact Mr Barrett, Careers Lead, at mbarrett@lampton.org.uk

Thank you for supporting our students and helping us to broaden their understanding of the world of work.
