Lampton School - Week 22

Posted on Feb 26th 2024

Monday 26th February

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the seventh week of the Spring Term 2024. It’s Week A with whole assemblies taking place. These are being led by Ms Bolton (Assistant Headteacher) on the theme of neurodiversity.

Y11 completed their second round of pre-public examinations last week and will receive feedback at their Parents’ Evening taking place on Thursday 21st March. It is imperative that all families attend this crucial event - booking details will be released shortly.

Y12 Parents’ Evening is on the horizon, taking place on Thursday 7th March. Again, full attendance is essential.

On Tuesday 19th March, we look forward to welcoming Y7 students and their families to Lampton for their Celebration Evening. We are all looking forward to celebrating the success the students have made so far during their Lampton journey. This event marks the start of the season of celebration events for all year groups, between Y7 -10, which will take place between now and the end of our academic year in May.

Please make note of the other dates:

23rd April Y8 Celebration Evening

14th May Y10 Celebration Evening

11th June Key Stage 4 Launch and Celebration for current Y9 moving into Y10

Y9 will be receiving their KS4 options choices in the next few weeks, ready to start their KS4 journey after the May half-term.

Finally, a very important notice. To safeguard every student in our school community we need to have at least two home contact details in place on SIMS. If you know that currently your child has only one emergency contact, please inform the school by emailing Ms Dhir on adhir@lampton.org.uk and provide an additional contact. We will be auditing this data in the coming weeks and will be contacting families who need to provide the additional data. Thank you for your support with this matter.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Government guidance on mobile phones in school and a reminder of our school policy

As you may have seen in the media, the Department of Education has recently updated its guidance on the use of mobile phones in school. The DfE’s guidance aligns with our existing policy that mobile phones should never be seen or heard on the school site. If a mobile phone is seen or heard, it is confiscated immediately and placed in Student Services. We advise students to always keep their phones switched off and kept out of sight. This message has been reiterated in this week’s assembly.

As a parent, if you need to contact your child immediately please contact the school and we will relay a message to your child.

Year 12 Parents’ Evening – 07 March 2023

Year 12 parents’ evening is on 07 March starting at 16.00.  Please book appointments online to see your child’s teachers using SchoolCloud. Your login details to book appointments have already been sent to you. Please email jcooper@lampton.org.uk if you have not received them.

More details of the year 12 parents’ evening can be found here: https://www.lampton.org.uk/370/parents-evenings

Safeguarding & Attendance - Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs

We recently circulated attendance guidance via email to all families with children in Years Seven to Year Eleven. Within this guidance, there is a section of young people who may be having difficulties attending due to social, emotional and mental health needs. The guidance is clear: attending school is often a protective factor for young people as being in school, completing their learning and mixing with their peers can improve wellbeing.

Furthermore, Sir Chris Whitty - Chief Medical Officer - stated that extended periods of absence can increase anxiety as the child experiences a greater disconnection with school. If your child is experiencing social, emotional or mental health barriers to attendance, please do contact their Head of Year. Additionally, our Support Centre runs a Parent/Carer event so families can discuss their child’s needs and how best to support them.

What To Expect...

A relaxed opportunity to meet other parents working toward supporting young people.

Someone to listen to you and offer strategies and interventions that may help you understand behaviours of young people.

Find out how the school and parents can work together to help with child’s school attendance.

Gain external outreach support resources for yourself and the young person, signposting you to further support services in the Borough.

A psychoeducation session on how to manage anxiety & depression from a trained CAMHS practitioner.

The group runs every other Tuesday in our Support Centre (P4) from 10am to 11am. The next session will be Tuesday 5th March.

Every student a reader!

As you are aware we pride ourselves on being a reading school. We read everyday, because this is how we improve. We improve our vocabulary, our understanding, our ability to solve problems. Educational psychologists tell us that reading is the single most important tool to ensuring success.

So we read everyday. Everyday we get better. You can help by talking to your child about what they are reading, and making sure that their reading book gets from their bedroom to their book bag everyday. You might also like to either read the same books as your child or read with them.

Napoleon Bonaparte, a man who knew more than a little about success, put it like this, “Show me a  family of readers,  and I will show you  the people who move the world.”

Here are this week’s ideas for you and your children.

KS3

Science fiction this week. In a small town everyone falls asleep and wakes up with mysterious powers…

KS4

On GCSE Language students are asked to analyse a piece of 19th Century fiction. Why not read the best? The classic vampire tale is just as page-turning today.

KS5

Keeping with the gothic theme, if you’ve not read Rebecca you need to. A ghost story with a difference, you won't be able to put it down.
