Lampton School - Week 36

Posted on Jun 26th 2023

Monday 26th June

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the tenth week of the Summer Term 2023. It’s Week B and our annual Sports’ Assemblies are taking place - rewarding excellent performance, effort and winners of the inter-form competitions. My thanks to Ms Newman and colleagues in the PE department who lead these events and also our extra-curricular and competitive sports programme - we have done very well in the Hounslow leagues for a number of sports.

Last week saw our Y11 experience their sixth form taster day, our careers fair for students and our Art and Design showcase of the amazing work completed by our students…and this week and the run up to the end of term is equally busy! My thanks to colleagues for facilitating these excellent opportunities for our students.

I am sure you will be aware that two further days of strike action by members of the NEU are scheduled to take place on Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th July. Currently, our plans are that we will operate as we have done for the previous strike days this year - i.e. non-striking staff will deliver lessons online from school and the site will be closed for students. The exception will be for those students who may be going on trips on those days - information will be given directly to those affected by this. I will update you further next Monday.

Next Tuesday is Primary Transfer Day and we look forward to welcoming our incoming Y7 students on that occasion and meeting their families in the evening. Ms Grantham has been appointed as their Head of Year.

As the weather is forecast to become cooler for the remainder of this week and next, as of Tuesday 27th June our ‘heatwave’ uniform modification has ended and from that day full school uniform is required - a school jumper under blazers, is of course, optional.

Please see below for details of our annual parent survey, details of our sponsored walk on 19th July and holiday programmes and activities available to some members of our community.

With best wishes for the week ahead.

Stephen Davis

Annual Survey of Parents 2023

We always appreciate feedback from parents and carers, and our annual survey helps us to find out both what you consider to be the school’s strengths and also areas for improvement. We would be grateful if you could complete this short survey before the end of the week.

Safeguarding Briefing: Online Gaming

We know that children can spend many hours a week engaged in online gaming. For many, this is a hobby or an enjoyable leisure activity. For some, it can develop into an addiction - that is both financially draining and can be isolating. Moreover, there are risks to children as the games are often networked - meaning that students may be connecting with strangers. There have been some horrific examples of young people who have been harmed or exploited where the first contact was through gaming. As a parent or carer, it's important that we understand the nature of the risks that children face today. Students may be less vulnerable to 'stranger danger' on the streets as they spend more time indoors, and more vulnerable through online settings. This guide gives further information about the risks of online gaming. We strongly recommend limiting the hours your child spends online, and ensuring that filtering is turned on on your home internet and on any smart phones your child may have, and that parental controls are installed on all other internet enabled devices.

Lampton School Sponsored Walk, Wednesday  19th July 2023

Parents and carers should have received an email at the end of last week containing details of the whole school sponsored walk around Osterley Park. Until the pandemic, this was a much beloved annual event and we are very excited to announce the return on Wednesday 19th July. Students will be raising money for our First Give winners, SPEAR London, a homelessness charity.
