Lampton School - Week 3

Posted on Sep 20th 2022

Tuesday 20th September 2022

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the third week of the Autumn Term 2022.

Last week in our assemblies we remembered the life and reign of the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and how we can all learn from her example of duty and service. Yesterday’s day of national mourning and State Funeral gave the nation, Commonwealth and the world the opportunity to stop and reflect on Her Majesty’s life. I know a large number of our community took the time to go and see the funeral cortege pass along the A4 on its journey to Windsor Castle. The period of national mourning has now come to an end and we look with positivity to the future while giving thanks for the life of the Queen.

This week is Week B, so year assemblies are taking place. Our praise theme is that of ‘kindness’. INSET Day takes place on Thursday 22nd September, so school will be closed for students. Friday will be a normal school day starting at the usual time of 8.40am.

Our annual Open Evening takes place on Thursday 6th October from 6-8.30pm. Myself and the Deputy Headteachers are currently visiting some of our link primary schools to talk to Y6 and invite them and their families to join us that evening. School will close at 12.30pm for students on Thursday 6th October with a later start on Friday 7th October for students. More details to follow.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Behaviour focus

Please be advised that as per our school policy- if your son/ daughter is removed from a lesson, they will have a restorative meeting at the end of the day with the teacher to resolve the issue. This involves completing a formal agreement and setting targets. These will be emailed to you so you know what subject and what the issue is. Please support your son/ daughter by speaking to them about the issues. We want to work together to ensure they achieve their goals - both in terms of grades, and behaving with respect towards each other and staff.

Safeguarding focus - Gaming and Gambling

Hounslow Safeguarding Children Partnership has recently joined up with the Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM), and is offering parents and carers free online training about gaming and gambling harms. The parent hub offers excellent resources, and if you would like to attend the online sessions, please see details below.

This info session covers Gambling: exploring the influences on children and young people, Gaming: discussing the benefits and concerns, the blurred lines between gaming and gambling, how to spot the signs of harm, useful tips to create a healthy gaming balance and support your child and where to get help and support. You can find further information to support topics covered during this info session on our YGAM Parent Hub.

Click here to register for World Mental Health Day Parents, Carers & Guardians training on 10th October 19:00 – 20:15

Can’t attend this day or time? Click here to register for a session on 26th October 18:00 – 19:15

Character Focus

The fortnightly character focus has now changed to ‘kindness’, choosing to do something that helps others and putting other people's needs before our own. We want students to be obviously kind and to make an effort to complete 3 acts of kindness each day so that these acts become habitual. Research shows that altruism (selfless concern for the wellbeing of others) makes people happier and all members of the community will benefit from being ‘obviously kind’. Year 7 students have had an assembly on this and will be working through activities in form time on this theme. Students will be rewarded achievement points for showing kindness to others in and out of lessons. Please support this work by speaking to pupils about how they have demonstrated kindness during their days.

Health and Safety: Student wearing jewellery and ‘fake’ nails

Please note that the school’s uniform code restricts the amount of jewellery that students may wear. Similarly, for health and safety reasons, students are not permitted to wear acrylic or other ‘fake’ nails, and students who do will be asked to remove these in Student Services. Full details of the uniform code can be found on this page: https://www.lampton.org.uk/365/uniform
