Lampton School - Week 25

Posted on Mar 18th 2024

Monday 18th March

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the tenth week of the Spring Term 2024. It’s Week B, so whole year assemblies are taking place. The theme this week is praise and the much coveted subject praise badges will be presented to students during these events.

On the theme of praise and celebration, we are looking forward to welcoming families of Y7 students to school tomorrow afternoon for the first of our annual Celebration Evening events.

This week also sees the all important final Parents’ Evening for Y11 taking place this Thursday from 4-7pm. It is essential that all students and their parent/carer attends this event so that they can benefit from feedback and strategies which will have a direct impact on the examinations in the summer.

Our drive in enhancing enrichment opportunities is going well and I am pleased to report that two residential trips - Jamie’s Farm and northern France - have been enjoyed by students recently as well as a number of day visits.

Term ends for the Easter break on Thursday 28th March with normal lessons continuing until the end of period 3, 12:30pm, when school ends for all students.

With best wishes for the week ahead.

Stephen Davis

Year 11 Parents’ Evening - 21 March 2024

We look forward to meeting the parents of year 11 pupils on Thursday.

We consider it vital that all parents attend parents' evening. Please check your emails for a schedule of appointments.

Please arrive five minutes before your first appointment and sign in; you will be given a pack containing your child’s report and other important information. Please keep to the appointment times - this helps to ensure the efficient running of the evening for all parents.

All students should be in full school uniform. There will be a scheduled break at 5.30 with a short presentation in the main atrium from Mr Bates.

Safeguarding briefing - domestic abuse

We know that at any time, some of our students will witness domestic abuse. Domestic abuse does not always involve violence, it can also include attempts to control, bully or threaten a domestic partner. Witnessing domestic abuse is child abuse: the impact of witnessing domestic abuse can be complex and profound, and students will need support which we will help to arrange. If you are the victim of domestic abuse and / or your child has witnessed this abuse, please do get in touch with the safeguarding team. We will signpost support for you and support your child’s social and emotional needs. Please contact the team via email, safeguarding@lampton.org.uk

It's important to remember domestic abuse:

  • can happen inside and outside the home

  • can happen over the phone, on the internet and on social networking sites

  • can happen in any relationship and can continue even after the relationship has ended

  • both men and women can be abused or abusers.

Student leadership

Since September our Subject Leader for PSHE, Mr McNamara has been busy overhauling our student leadership structures. As a result, we now have year councils in place for Y7-11, joining the well established 6th Form leadership team. Many students have applied to be on the whole school council, and interviews will follow shortly. To find out more about our student leadership structures, please visit the updated webpage.

Basketball success

The U16 boys basketball academy team won the district championship last week at  West Thames college. This victory in the battle of the borough tournament is the second time in a row that Lampton have won the championship. This year's championship is even more special as 80% of the team were fasting, making playing even more difficult but students showed grit and resilience and managed to beat all eight schools at the tournament finishing undefeated overall.

This will be the last time that the U16 team will play together as a team. It was special occasion for them all to end it how they started it as a team.

Jack Petchey Award - Year 10 recipients

The school has been working closely with the Jack Petchey Foundation to recognise students who have shown grit, kindness and responsibility during their studies at Lampton. Those recognised receive recognition through a certificate and a badge, as well as a £300 prize which they can use to benefit their peers at school.

Bashar and Andreea in Year 10 are our next recipients for this academic year. Ms Majithia nominated Andreea due to her dedication to her studies at school. Bashar was nominated by Ms Ilyas for his perseverance since starting his studies at Lampton.

Further recipients will be announced throughout the academic year.
