Lampton School - Week 18

Posted on Jan 22nd 2024

Monday 22nd January

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the third week of the Spring Term 2024. It’s Week A with year assemblies being led by Ms Kapila (Assistant Headteacher) and Mr Smale (Senior Head of Year). The focus is making the most of the opportunities that are available in school - dayto-day in the curriculum and also our extensive extra curricular offer. They also emphasised our shared values and expectations at Lampton which we can all demonstrate through our actions - especially the importance of showing respect through manners such as ‘please’, ‘thank you’, ‘yes Miss’ and ‘Yes Sir’.

As you will see below, the government has launched a new strategy on the importance of attendance and punctuality - again a theme being emphasised in our assemblies this week. Did you know that if your child arrives after 9:10am when the register closes they are marked absent from school for the whole morning? This absence is marked as unauthorised and can lead to intervention from Hounslow Council. Please take time to read more about this below and how you can support your child with maximising their attendance at school by being on time every day.

It was wonderful to see so many families at the Y9 Options Evening last week and this process has now started in earnest. A reminder that Y10 Parents’ Evening takes place next week and Y13 on 8th February - the school’s expectation is that all families must attend these events to support their child’s progress.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Safeguarding bulletin: the role of Hounslow Children’s Services

When working to protect children from harm, the school works closely with Hounslow Council’s Children’s Services department. The school will make referrals to Children’s Services where we are concerned that a child is either at risk of harm, or has been harmed. This may be in addition to a referral to the Metropolitan Police. All staff in school know how to make a referral, although typically it is safeguarding staff who will undertake this work. Parents and carers can also make direct contact with Children’s Services where they are concerned about harm to a child. For more information, please see: https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/info/20075/child_protection

U code - Moments Matter, Attendance Counts

Last week, all families Y7-Y11 were sent a factsheet detailing attendance protocols and sharing guidance on supporting positive attendance. We strongly encourage families to read this and discuss it with their child. A reminder that our expectation is for students to have an attendance percentage of 96% or more.

The school site is open from 8am each day - with the canteen serving free porridge and other breakfast items available for purchase. From next Monday 29th January, the library will also be open from 8am for students to use the space to work in - and there will be a teacher on hand to support students if they need help.

All students are expected to be on site by 8:30am with a prompt start to registration at 8:40am. If your child arrives after our registers close, without parent/carer communication via absence@lampton.org.uk, then this will be regarded as an unauthorised absence and coded as U. This will impact your child’s attendance percentage and will result in follow up from the school and/or a referral to Hounslow Council’s Student Advisory Support Service.
