2-day Secondary Materials Health & Safety (SMHS)

Location: Lampton School, Lampton Avenue, Hounslow, TW3 4EP
Time: 09:00 - 15:30

Date: Thursday 10th and Friday 11th December 2026 

Cost: £470 - Includes the cost for Design & Technology Association (DATA) certificate and a light lunch.

Programme: This course will cover specific health and safety hazards in a workshop environment and consider ways in which these could be minimised. Hazards associated with common chemicals, subject specific machinery, and processes used within and around the classroom will also be addressed.

Day 1 - Thursday 10th December 2026
Drilling Machine, Sanding Machine, Portable power tools (Drill & Sander), Power Fret Saw, Hand Tools, Plastics Moulding Equipment.

Day 2 - Metal focussed - Friday 11th December 2026
Hand Tools for Metalwork, Guillotines, Shears & Trimmers, Off Hand Grinding, Power Hacksaw for Metal Cutting, Heat Processes for metal to include - Forge Work, Brazing and Silver Soldering, Pewter Casting, Soft Soldering for Electronics, Polishing and Buffing Machines.

All the activities conform to the current D&T Association Training Standards.

Outcomes: Upon successful completion of the course, a certificate from the Design and Technology Association (DATA) will be issued.

Your Commitment: Both days must be attended to achieve this accreditation.

Our Commitment: High quality training will be provided, ensuring that all criteria for successful assessment, in line with DATA certification, are met. Access to workshop tools and equipment that comply with BS4163:2014 will be available.

Eligibility: Anyone is eligible for this course. It is recommended by DATA that all teachers of Resistant Materials complete this training every five years or more often if they do not teach it very often. This is the ‘full course’ and not the ‘refresher’.

Cancellations made up to 15 working days prior to the course start date will incur no charge. Cancellations made within 15 working days of the start date will be charged in full. This includes non-attendance. Bookings made within the 15 working day cancellation period are final and non-refundable.
