Lampton School - Week 21

Posted on Feb 20th 2023

Monday 20th February

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the seventh week of the Spring Term 2023. It’s Week A with whole school assemblies taking place from Tuesday to Thursday due to INSET day on Monday 20th.  Our character theme remains as  ‘trust’ for this week.

A great deal of work has taken place on-site over the half-term break. A new, start of the art, telephony system has been installed and this will make contacting the school by telephone much easier. Cucina, our new catering partners, have over half term renovated the canteen kitchen and we are looking forward to a significantly better school meals service. As a reminder, Cucina will be providing a breakfast service each day from 8am and this includes providing all students with free porridge, as well as a cost effective breakfast menu. As a school, we have increased the Free School Meal (FSM) value to £2.50 and this will allow students in receipt of a FSM to have a main course, pudding and drink each day. If you think that your child  would qualify for FSMs please contact Ms Dhadli at the school sdhadli@lampton.org.uk who can advise you further and support the application process. More information can be found here, including the menu (we are in week one) and price list.

Other works undertaken include a canopy outside the dining hall and a new AV system in the Sixth Form centre. Our administration team has moved into one office together, thereby enhancing internal communication with the intention of  having a positive impact on students and their families when enquiries are made.

Thank you to those of you who took the time to complete our parental engagement survey earlier in February - the results of which and our actions can be seen below.

As you will be aware the second day of strike action by members of the NEU is due to take place on Thursday 2nd March. I will be able to give you precise details about whether the school will be open or closed in next week’s bulletin.

With best wishes for the week ahead.

Stephen Davis

Parent Engagement Survey

Thank you for your feedback to us in the survey before half term. The findings were discussed by the Senior Leadership Team, and the following decisions were made as a result:

  • To better facilitate 1:1 communication, we will set up a contacts page on the website with information for how to contact the Subject Leaders, Heads of Years and other key school staff.

  • From April 2023, we will be reintroducing awards evening, but to allow all parents and students to attend, these will be staged as one year group at a time.

  • From September 2023, there will be an enhanced insight into the curriculum available on our website.

  • In the next academic year, we will return to face to face parents’ evenings for all year groups. We are confident that this will give parents a detailed insight into how your child is progressing, both academically and in terms of their personal development. Teachers will receive further training on how to make these evenings as beneficial for parents as possible.

Safeguarding briefing: Safer Internet Day

A key aspect of ensuring students’ personal development is to teach students how to use the internet safely. Tuesday 7th February was Safer Internet Day, and this website contains lots of resources that we can use with students to emphasise key points. Childnet also has excellent resources for young people and parents and carers.

At Lampton we teach students about internet safety in Year 7 as part of the Computing curriculum, and revisit through PSHE and the tutor programme. We also regularly review our filtering systems, and monitor students' usage via keystroke logging technology. We know that many of the risks that students face now are linked to their lives online, and if you have any such concerns about your child’s safety or wellbeing please do contact the Safeguarding Team at Lampton safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.
