Lampton School - Week 9

Posted on Nov 7th 2022

Monday 7th November

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the ninth week of the Autumn Term 2022. It’s Week B, so year assemblies are taking place. Our character focus for this fortnight is ‘grit’ - demonstrating passion and perseverance in the pursuit of long term goals. This is particularly appropriate for Y11 students as they complete their first round of PPEs for the year and prepare for Progress Evening on Thursday 8th December, which will be held face-to-face in school.

On Thursday, Ms Bolton (Assistant Headteacher), presented to staff about attendance and punctuality. It is essential that your child is on-site by 8.30am each morning and that they attend school each day - our target for students is 96% attendance. Every absence, or late arrival, has a direct impact on the progress students make.

On Friday a group of Y9 students visited London Zoo for the day and this week the cast of the school production, Mary Poppins, are going to see the West End production of the show to inspire them. We look forward to seeing the Lampton performance early next term!

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Sixth Form Open Evening

The Sixth Form team looks forward to welcoming students in Y11 and their parents/ carers to the Sixth Form Open evening on Thursday 17th November at 18.00.  This is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about life in Lampton Sixth Form and the opportunities we offer.  There will be a presentation in the main hall, starting at 18.00 promptly, followed by a subject exhibition where students will have a chance to investigate the subjects on offer and speak with staff and students.  We hope this will allow students to make informed decisions about their post-16 pathways.  The application form will open after this event with interviews taking place during the Spring term.

Fortnightly Character Theme

The praise theme now changes to grit; this is demonstrating passion and perseverance in the pursuit of long-term goals. This has been identified as an extremely important capacity in determining success in school and the future. Students will be rewarded with this through weekly theme achievement points and tutee of the week awards.

Year 7 students will be continuing with their character curriculum and will focus explicitly on grit this week. They will have assemblies on this theme and will be learning how they can demonstrate this capacity both in and out of school.

Safeguarding briefing - honour-based abuse

Honour-based abuse is a crime or incident committed to protect or defend the 'honour' of a family or community. It is associated with feelings of shame that may be rooted in cultural or religious belief, where the actions of a family member, or member of the community, is deemed to have violated the honour code. People who carry out honour-based abuse are often close family members but also extended family or community members. Although rare, we should be aware that students may experience threats, coercion or violence as a result of the concept of 'honour'. Or students may be affected by witnessing honour-based abuse directed at other family members or friends. This information from the Metropolitan Police summarises different examples of honour based abuse and guidance on how to report, and gain further support. If you think that any student is at risk of honour based abuse, or any other potential harm, please contact the Safeguarding team via email: safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.
