Lampton School - Week 39

Posted on Jul 17th 2023

Monday 17th July

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the thirteenth, and final, week of the Summer Term 2023. It’s Week A, so our whole school assemblies have been taking place. These have been led by Mr Pavey and have focused on time and how we can all maximise it to good effect, especially  during the forthcoming holiday.

Trips and visits have continued apace over the last week and this coming week too. On Wednesday we have our whole school sponsored walk around Osterley Park - please see details below. Friday sees our Diversity Day taking place and students are encouraged to attend school in clothing which shows their identity, whether this is their family heritage, faith or culture. It’s a great opportunity to share our individual identity and to celebrate the diversity of our school community. A reminder that school ends for all students at 12.30pm on Friday.

As the term draws to a close, I’d like to thank you for your continued support of the school and to thank my staff colleagues for facilitating such great opportunities for members of our community, both in school and beyond.

On behalf of myself, the Trustees and staff of the school may I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a restful summer break. School resumes for new Year 7 students on Wednesday 6th September and all years on Thursday 7th September at 8.40am.

With best wishes for the summer break.

Stephen Davis

Whole school walk to Osterley

This annual event takes place on Wednesday 19th July. All students will attend school in time for 8.40 start for registration followed by period 1 lessons.  Students should bring in their books for period one. Students do not need to bring in their school bags but please do encourage them to carry a small rucksack for the walk in which they can carry a packed lunch and drink for a 20 - 25 minute lunch break at the park.   Any students on free school meals should collect their lunch either before school or at break time.

All students are expected to wear Lampton PE kit, white top and black bottoms/shorts, and Sixth Form students should wear appropriate sportswear. We are raising money for our First Give winners, SPEAR, to support homeless people. Please see the link on Google Classroom for donations.  Currently we have raised just over £500.  There will be an early finish to school with approximate arrival time back to school is 2.00 - 2.30pm, students will have a quick afternoon registration before they are dismissed from school.

Diversity Day

Our second annual Diversity Day  takes place on Friday. This is a non-uniform day where students are encouraged to wear clothes that reflect an aspect of their identity - whether interests, cultural heritage or religious faith. Please make a £1 donation to SPEAR either through ParentPay, or ensure that your child has a £1 to pay on the day.

Safeguarding - staying safe over summer

The theme of this week’s assembly and tutor time resources is on how students can best spend their time in the holidays. Mr Pavey encouraged students to think about what they will read, and places they can visit in London (many of which have no entrance fees). We have encouraged students to limit their screen time, and consider challenging themselves with a new hobby, interest or pursuit. From a safeguarding perspective, an active and purposeful holiday is also a safer holiday - especially given the risks of students spending too much on their phones. To quote from the bible, “idle hands are the devil's workshop, idle hands are the devil's playthings, and idle hands are the devil's playground.” This guide has many interesting (and free) things to do in the summer holidays. Closer to home, Hounslow Council runs a summer holiday programme, and Healthy Hounslow have compiled this resource on how parents can promote a healthy lifestyle with children.

If you are concerned about your child’s safety or wellbeing over the summer holidays, then please contact the police in an emergency, or if you suspect abuse, contact Hounslow Children’s Services or the NSPCC. We also have resources to support student and parent wellbeing, and if you have a child who is anxious about starting Year 7, this webinar from the Anne Freud centre may provide some useful guidance.
