Lampton School - Week 38

Posted on Jul 10th 2023

Monday 10th July

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the twelfth week of the Summer Term 2023. It’s Week B and our year team praise assemblies are taking place, including the presentation of the much sought after subject award badges!

Our trips programme continues throughout this week, with a group of new Y10 having left London this morning bound for Wiltshire and a week on Jamie’s Farm. Day trips include visits to the Gurdwara in Southall, London Zoo, St Lawrence Church in Feltham, a climbing wall trip and the Silver DofE expedition next weekend. One highlight of this week is the Y11 Prom which takes place at The Riverside on Bath Road on Wednesday evening. Sports Days are diarised over the coming week or so with details on Google Classroom. My thanks to the staff for their commitment in leading these opportunities for students, in particular I am pleased that no trips were disrupted due to the strike action last week.

Next Wednesday - 19th July - sees the whole school community coming together for our sponsored walk around Osterley Park. I’m very much looking forward to this as it is the first time since Covid that we have been able to do this again as a school community. Further details have been issued separately by letter, including details of sponsorship.

As we begin to look towards the end of term, please note that school will end on Friday 21st July at 12.30pm with lessons as per normal taking place that day. That day will also be our Diversity Day and as per last year, students may wear clothes which celebrate their individual identity and celebrate the diversity of our Lampton School community.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Diversity Day: Friday 21st July

On the last day of term, we will be holding our second annual Diversity Day - to celebrate the school's diversity. Students will be permitted to wear their own clothes, with an encouragement to dress to reflect the rich and diverse identities and heritage that make our students who they are. We strongly encourage students to make a £1 donation (this can be made either as a ParentPay donation, or in person in cash). A reminder that the school day will finish early at 12.30pm.

Safeguarding Briefing: School Guidance on Mobile Phones

As a school we are conscious of the dangers of mobile phones - specifically the safeguarding risk from certain apps as outlined last week, and more specifically from the risk of students' attention spans being diminished through incessant scrolling on social media, and the risk that students gain a distorted view of the world courtesy of the social media algorithm. We have updated our guidance on mobile phones for new parents / carers:

We strongly encourage parents to delay getting a smartphone for your child as long as possible. If your child does bring a mobile phone to school, the school is not responsible if it is lost / damaged / stolen.

If your child does have a mobile phone, please:

● Ensure you monitor and limit your child's phone use - through Apple Screen Time / Google

Family Link.

● From time to time manually check your child’s phone, including social media apps e.g.

WhatsApp groups.

● Ensure internet filters are turned on at home and on your child’s mobile network.

More information can be found in our e-safety guide for parents and carers.

Physics competition

On Wednesday 14th June Lampton School hosted the final of the 1st Annual Inter School Ogden Physics Quiz. Teams of Year 10 students from Hampton School, Lampton School, Chelsea Academy and Gumley House School competed in 3 rounds of British Physics Olympiad Questions as well as a competition to build a self-propelling car. Lampton held their own very well, placing 2nd in both quiz and practical competition making them arguably the top all-round team! Well done to Anavi, Zahraa, Tarini and Avigya for their excellent performance.
