Lampton School - Week 13

Posted on Dec 5th 2022

Monday 5th December

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the thirteenth week of the Autumn Term 2022. It’s Week B, so year assemblies are taking place, focusing on praise and the awarding of the much sought after subject badges.

Tuesday at 6.30pm sees our Christmas Musical Showcase event taking place in the Hall and we'd be delighted if you were able to join us. On Thursday it’s the Y11 Progress Evening taking place face-to-face in the Sixth Form Centre - a very important event for Y11 to get feedback on their recent PPE performance and the all important next steps they need to take.

At the end of this week Y10 begin their first round of Pre Public Examinations (PPEs) which continue throughout the last week of term. Details of Y13 exams in January can be found below.

A reminder that school finishes at 12.30pm on Friday 16th December with normal lessons taking place up to that point.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Y10 Exams - December

From this Friday 9th December until the end of term, Year 10 students will be taking their first set of Pre-Public Examinations. An overview of the timetable can be accessed here. The purpose is to give accurate feedback to students on their progress on the course so far, and to give them the experience of taking high-stakes examinations. As such, it’s important that students focus their energies on effective revision techniques. This guide to revision has been put together by Lampton staff to help students at home.

Y13 Exams - January

From Tuesday 3rd January to Tuesday 10th January inclusive, Y13 students will be attending only for their exams, which will take place upstairs in the Study Suite in the atrium.  Students must take care to observe the exam timings which do NOT follow the timings of the day.  Students have had their timetables emailed to their school email - but an overview can be found here. Please note Y12 students will have their end of year exams in May - dates will be confirmed early next term.

Safeguarding briefing: What would you do if you thought a child was at risk of exploitation?

As two of our contextual safeguarding priorities, we want to always remain vigilant for young people who may be at risk. However, the nature of child criminal exploitation, and child sexual exploitation, often makes it hard for people who work with children to spot the signs. This is because often children are manipulated into believing that they are not being exploited, or actively encouraged to 'cover their tracks'. This excellent new resource highlights some of the warning signs for all adults to be aware about. If you are concerned about a child being at risk, please do contact the safeguarding team at Lampton via email safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.

Pakistan floods

Following on from the devastating floods in Pakistan during the summer, students across the different year groups are very keen to fundraise in support of charities that support people in Pakistan who have been worst affected. The following events will take place in school:

  •  Raffle (tickets will be sold during form time w/b 12th December – students will be able to buy a raffle ticket with a £1 cash donation)
  • Cake sale – 15th December lunchtime outside the Communication Centre (cash)
  • The canteen will also be serving Pakistani food for lunch – also 15th December

Our thanks to Ms Gartska and members of the School Council for organising the fundraising!
