Lampton School - Week 20

Monday 5th February

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the fifth week of the Spring Term 2024. It’s Week A with whole assemblies taking place. These are being led by Mr Pavey (Assistant Headteacher) and are focusing on ambition and the future.

It was good to see so many families in attendance at last Thursday’s Y10 Parents’ Evening and this Thursday we look forward to seeing parents/carers of students in Y13 for the final parents evening. This event is of such great importance as this year group prepares for the final big push before the Public Examination season and the all important grades for their next step, whether that be university, a workplace apprenticeship or the world of work itself.

A reminder that Friday 9th February is an INSET, so the school site will be closed for all students. School reconvenes for the second half of the Spring Term on Monday 19th February at the usual time of 8:40am. Please note that Friday 23rd February will be our ‘Remote Learning Day’, with students completing work at home. All Year 11 students will be present for an examination in the morning, and only selected groups of students in Year 11 and Year 13 will be required to attend.

With best wishes for the week ahead and the half-term break,

Stephen Davis

Year 13 Parents’ Evening - 08 February 2024

We look forward to meeting the parents of Year 13 pupils on Thursday.

We consider it vital that all parents attend parents' evening. Where parents have not made appointments yet, we have made appointments on your behalf through SchoolCloud. Please check your emails for a schedule of appointments.

Please arrive five minutes before your first appointment and sign in; you will be given a pack containing your child’s report and other important information. Please keep to the appointment times - this helps to ensure the efficient running of the evening for all parents.

Year 11 Examination Arrangements

In the week beginning 19th February, Year 11 students will undertake their final round of pre-public examinations. The PPE timetable is now available on the website. This is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their progress in their revision in advance of the final examinations starting mid-May.

On a related note, please bear in mind that the final possible day of examinations is Wednesday 26th June. This is called the ‘exam contingency day’: if there are any unforeseen circumstances the exam board may need to reschedule examinations on this date. Please do not book any holidays or other commitments for Y11 students until this date has passed.

Extra-curricular update

This academic year  we will be continuing to expand our extra curricular offerings to provide students with as many opportunities to develop their character outside of lessons. We offer a wide range of clubs which include sports, performing arts and academic activities - more information and a timetable can be found on the year group google classroom pages and the Lampton School website.

Club Spotlight:

Table Tennis - KS3

When: Thursdays after school

Following student feedback we are pleased to be able now offer a table tennis club after school on Thursdays. Students will receive coaching and play in competitive mini tournaments. As the standards improve we will look at organising fixtures against other schools in the local area.

Unifrog:

All students have Unifrog accounts and should be using this to conduct further research into careers and pathways for the future. Students can also use this to log enrichment activities in order to ensure that they are continuing to build up a wide range of skills to help them in the future. We encourage all students to log on and complete a personality profile as soon as possible. https://www.unifrog.org/

Careers focus:

Students have access to a wide range of careers related opportunities including one-to-one advice, workshops and visits. Year 10 and Year 11 are continuing with their careers advice interviews and year 9 have begun to have their options interviews.

Safeguarding briefing: Mental Health

Children’s Mental Health Week is 5 - 11 February 2024, and we will be using this time to share key messages about mental health with our students. We recognise that we all have mental health, and just like physical health we can all make choices that can lead to better mental health. Please read this flyer from Hounslow School Nursing Service about supporting young people to make their voice matter.
