Lampton School - Week 26

Posted on Mar 27th 2023

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our newsletter for the twelfth, and final, week of the Spring Term 2023. For students in Y11 and Y13 our focus turns very much to the forthcoming Public Examinations which start very soon after our return to school. Every single minute of school time counts, as does maximising study time in the Easter holiday. We look forward to welcoming Y11 parents on Thursday evening from 4pm for our progress evening, part of which will contain an important presentation on revision strategies.

When we return from the Easter break there is just a few weeks until all year groups are promoted as our new academic year begins on Monday 5th June. For students in all years, the next half-term is a time to finish their current year off well. This week in our year assemblies we have been celebrating success across the curriculum with the presentation of the much coveted subject badges.

Our character theme has changed, appropriately,  this week to ‘reflection’ and I would like all members of the Lampton community to reflect on their successes so far this year and their targets for finishing the academic year off well between now and June.

My thanks for your continued support of the school and I look forward to seeing you at the celebration events planned for next term, details of which can be found below.

With best wishes to you all for a relaxing Spring break. Happy Easter to those observing the festival and Ramadan Mubarak to those observing the holy month.

Stephen Davis

Y12 End of Year Examinations

Year 12 examinations will take place 25th April - 28th April inclusive.  Students have received their provisional timetable, and should ensure that they have all the resources they need to make productive use of their time over the holidays.

Celebration event future dates

A reminder that following on from our inaugural Year 7 event, we have the following celebration events planned for the next term:

Year 8 - Tuesday 25th April

Year 9 - Tuesday 16th May

Year 10 - Tuesday 23rd May

Year 12 - Tuesday 20th June

We strongly encourage parents of all students in the year group to save the date and attend to celebrate the success of children in the year group.

Labelling uniform

To ensure that any lost property is quickly reunited with its owner, please make sure all items of uniform and PE kit are labelled clearly with your child’s name. Please also label coats, bags and bottles.

Ramadan

For the duration of Ramadan, we will be hosting prayers at lunchtime in the Old Dining Room supervised by a member of staff. There are some prayer mats available for use, or alternatively students may wish to bring their own prayer mats.

Cricket Visit

Last week we hosted Yorkshire and England cricketer Dawid Malan, who ran a coaching masterclass followed by a question and answer session. Our young aspiring cricketers were inspired to hear about his journey from club to international cricket, and we hope to see them follow in his footsteps.

Safeguarding bulletin - pornography

As much as we may disapprove of it, it is more than likely that young people will encounter pornography when using social media / the internet.  It is important that parents and carers have the confidence to talk to their children about this. We know that consumption of pornography is associated with many harms - such as producing a problematic image of sexual intimacy as well as problematic views of body image for both male and female students. This article explores how parents and carers may wish to discuss this with their children. As ever, we strongly advise parents to maintains controls on their children’s phones to reduce the likelihood of children being exposed to inappropriate and dangerous content. If you require support with this, please do contact the safeguarding team safeguarding@lampton.org.uk.

Holiday activities for students on Free School Meals

During the Easter holidays we will be hosting Ominira Learning’s Easter Camp. If you are eligible and would like to find out more information please see the flyer below or this link for the wider programme. For the application form, please see this link.
