What is a Teaching School?

Teaching schools are outstanding schools that play an important role in a school-led system, working with others to provide high-quality training and support for school improvement in their local area.

The Teachings Schools have three main responsibilities:

  • co-ordinating and delivering high-quality, school-based initial teacher training (ITT)
  • spreading excellent practice by supporting other schools, particularly those that need it the most (School to School Support)
  • providing professional and leadership development for teachers and leaders across their network (Continuous Professional Development Programmes)

Teaching School Alliances are led by a Teaching School. Lampton School in Hounslow is the Teaching School that coordinates the London West Alliance (LWA).  We have a large number of partner schools both primary and secondary. We also work closely with universities (Saint Mary’s University in Twickenham and Roehampton University) and various external agencies such as: Researchers in School, EEF
