Lampton recognises the importance of developing leadership and team work skills and instilling students with a sense of community responsibility. With this in mind, when students reach the sixth form they have a range of leadership pathways that they can follow. Students have the opportunity to be part of the Leadership team.
To be successful the student leadership team have to undergo a rigorous interview with three members of staff. Students nominating themselves for headboy/girl positions have to prepare a speech for assembly in which they address what aspects of the school they would like to lead change in. Students on the team may be assigned year team responsibilities; linked to departments; or be involved in whole school projects and productions. In 2010 the leadership team had the opportunity to share their leadership development workshop experience in the Seychelles where they toured a number of schools and hosted workshops for local students.
The leadership team have been integral in deciding on uniform policy; winning the sixth form new building bid; raising money for over 15 different charities; and setting up buddying and homework clubs and helping out the lower years in tutor periods.
In addition the school encourages sixth form members who demonstrate that they are organised in balancing commitments the opportunity to apply for paid positions in areas such as the canteen and the rewards shop.
