Lampton School - Week 39

Posted on Jul 11th 2022

Monday 11th July

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our weekly update for the twelfth  week of the Summer Term 2022.  Last Tuesday saw our first face to face Primary Transfer day for Y6 students moving to Y7 since 2019! It was great to welcome our new cohort for the day and to see a packed hall for our parent and carer meeting in the evening.

This week sees the Y11 Prom tomorrow evening at Riverside on Bath Road, followed on Thursday by our Music Showcase - including the newly formed Lampton Samba band! Our intrepid Duke of Edinburgh Award participants have departed today for the New Forest and we wish them every success in this heat!

Term ends next Friday and below you can see arrangements for that day. There’s also important information about our uniform modifications re: this week’s heatwave and information about school shoes for September.

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

End of term arrangements

Term ends on Friday 22nd July and arrangements for students will be registration as usual at 8.40am, and then students will attend periods 1-3, before being dismissed at 12.30pm. Students who receive free school meals can pick up lunch before they leave the school site.

Heatwave!

As you may be aware, we have brought forward the ‘heatwave’ provision in our new uniform policy. Students are now encouraged to take off their ties and blazers are optional. This provision was introduced following suggestions from students and parents, to help ensure that students are more comfortable learning at school in the excessive heat. All other uniform requirements remain the same.

What is a school shoe?

If you’re purchasing new school shoes for your child, please remember that they should be formal in nature. More details can be found on our uniform page, and the infographic below may be of use. If in doubt, please contact your child’s Head of Year.

Safeguarding Briefing: Mental Health and Wellbeing Resources

In the final week during tutor time, students will be reminded of self-care strategies and the Kooth app to help them over the summer holidays. Parents/carers may wish to take a look at the resources too - they may be useful when discussing wellbeing with your child.

We promote the Anna Freud On my Mind material and, for the summer holidays their self-care plan:  https://www.annafreud.org/schools-and-colleges/resources/my-self-care-plan-secondary

Also, the mental health app, Kooth, remains open throughout the summer holidays with access to counsellors. Please see https://www.kooth.com/
