Lampton School - Week 37

Posted on Jun 27th 2022

Monday 27th June

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our weekly update for the tenth week of the Summer Term 2022. This week sees more enrichment opportunities for members of the Lampton School community, ranging from: our German exchange to Heidleberg; a trip for triple scientists to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich and new Y10 taking part in a visit about natural history along the River Thames. Of course, in just a couple of weeks time our whole school sponsored walk around Osterley Park will take place on Wednesday 13th July - watch this space for more information!

As I visit lessons with Heads of Year, we will be continuing to focus on the following for the remainder of term: in Years 8 & 9 - the ‘5 Golden Rules’ of presentation; Year 10 - making an excellent start to the GCSE course and Y11 - stepping up to the challenges of the final year of GCSE and maximising potential.

On Thursday 23rd June, we said our final farewell to Y11 after the end of their public examinations. We wish them every success and an enjoyable summer break. Of course, we look forward to seeing many of them return to our sixth form in September and details of the forthcoming ‘taster days’ will be sent home.

A reminder that full school uniform is required now that the weather has become cooler. If you wish to donate uniform that is no longer required, please drop it off at Reception. All donations gratefully received!

With best wishes for the week ahead,

Stephen Davis

Department Restoratives

This is a new central system where if a student is ‘parked’ (i.e. sent to another classroom) during a lesson because of poor behaviour then they will be asked to come after school 3.10-3.30pm to have a restorative conversation with the teacher to reflect on why they were removed from the lesson. A restorative conversation involves being honest, being reflective and taking responsibility. It also involves the student and teacher working together to set targets and building a positive relationship so students can be engaged in their learning. The contract signed will be emailed to you and reviewed. If the student does not fulfil their agreement it will result in further consequences for persistent poor learning behaviour. If you have any questions or queries please email askapila@lampton.org.uk.

Basketball success

Last week the Year 7 basketball academy team played away at the University of East London to take part in the Jr NBA London final 4s.

Lampton took on a much taller and bigger team Ark Globe Academy from south London in the semi-finals. Lampton took an early lead and was in control for most of the game leading by as many as 5 points. Ark Globe made a come back in the final quarter of the game with Lampton only leading by 1 point score 20-19 with 8 seconds left to go in the match. Unfortunately for Lampton we gave up an easy basket in the last few seconds of the game. Final score 20-21 to Ark Globe academy.

The loss meant that we dropped into the 3rd & 4th place match. After a good team talk with everyone voicing their disappointment in the semi final loss, the team bounced back in the next game against Harris Academy Crystal Palace. This time Lampton made up for what happened the last game and stormed off into an early lead and never looked back. The final score was 38-28 to Lampton, meaning we now collected the bronze medal.

It was a great experience for our students who played and all those who attended to support the team and a great achievement to finish third best team in London.

Safeguarding bulletin

In recent years, TikTok has become one of the most widely used social media platforms by young people. It’s really important that parents understand how TikTok works, in order to keep children safe. The minimum age for TikTok is 13 years old - meaning that students should only start using this app in Year 8 at the earliest. As with all social media use by parents, it’s essential that parental controls are installed on mobile and other internet enabled devices. Please see below for useful guides on TikTok:
