Monday 21st March

Dear Parents, Carers and Students,

Welcome to our weekly update for the twelfth week of the Spring Term. Last week saw a number of activities take place in school via our social action committee and PSHE students to raise money for charities supporting agencies working in Ukraine. Our thanks to all who offered support and those who organised events.

Last week was very busy in school with a number of events and visitors, ranging from a play for Y7 on road safety and an author visit by Kathy Weeks who ran a workshop for Y7 and Y8 students as well as giving out signed copies of her latest book ‘What’s New Harper Drew’.

This week sees our school production of ‘Matilda’ taking place in the main hall on Thursday and Friday evening at 7pm. Tickets are available on Parent Pay and it would be great to see you there! My thanks to Miss Bowater, the Performing Arts department and students for their hard work.

Uniform reminder: students are only permitted to wear stud earrings; nose piercings are not permitted and fake nails should not be worn to school. Thank you for your support with these matters.

Term ends of Friday 1st April and arrangement that day will be: registration as usual at 8.40am, students will attend periods 1-3 as usual, before being dismissed at 12.30pm.

Thank you for your continued support of the school and best wishes for the week ahead…it looks like Spring has definitely arrived!

Arrangements for the last day of term

Friday 1st April is the last day of term: the day will start as usual at 8.40am, and students will attend registration, and periods 1-3 as usual, before being dismissed at 12.30pm.

Students in Year 11 and Year 13

All exam entries have been sent to the exam boards, and so Ms Lewis, the Examinations Officer, has produced a list showing all exam dates.  We are not yet in a position to issue timetables as we have until Easter to change the tier, and those departments who have tiered entries, often like to leave the final decision on tiers as late as possible, so any timetable issued now might not reflect the final entry.

Please be aware that if your child is in Year 11 or Year 13, and you would like to book a holiday, please be aware that students should be available up to and including Wednesday 29th June, as that is the exam contingency day.  If students have any exam clashes, they should speak to Ms Lewis, Examinations Officer (office opposite the Staff Room).

Careers talks

Around 40 students attended a talk by one of our ex students Moni Sandhu who is currently in the third year of her medical degree at UCL.  Students heard about the reality of life at medical school, received tips on the application process  and were able to ask questions.  Many thanks to Moni for giving up her time and the students who attended found the session hugely helpful.  Later this week, we will be hosting a barrister to learn more about the legal profession - students can sign up via the year group google classroom page.

Safeguarding Briefing: Swimming

As the weather warms up and our thoughts may turn to summer holidays, now is the time to check that your child is ready to swim. Swimming lessons are available for secondary school students (and adults) at local leisure centres - see the link for more information. LB Hounsow has also reintroduced free lessons where the students receive free school meals, or if families are in receipt of universal credit. For more information, see the section below.
