Basketball Academy

  • The Basketball Academy travelled to France to take part in an U14 International Basketball Tournament run over 3 days with teams from China, Lithuania, France, Italy, Algeria, Poland and Germany. Lampton School was the first team to be representing Britain at this very prestigious tournament that is in its 27th year.
  • We have established a link with Sky Sports and are part of their ‘Sky Sports Living For Sports’ scheme.
  • As part of this program we had Judo Olympian Tom Daley visit the Academy Monday 16 May to speak with the boys about the importance of school and balancing the life of a student-athlete.
  • The first ever Lampton Basketball Academy awards evening took place on the 29th June. Over 140 people attended. Numerous awards were presented to include 4 borough league champions, team MVP, National quarter finalists etc. All awards were presented by GB International and full time professional Julius Joseph.
  • In May the Royal Marines took the Basketball Academy boys for team-building and intensity sessions.
  • In August the Academy took 13 players to an international residential camp in Leeds run by world renowned Five Star Basketball. Jimmy Singh, Jonah Ting, Steven Potrayla, Elmi Elmi and Amar Dhani were all selected to the All Star teams where Jonah Ting stole the show winning the game’s MVP. Jimmy Singh went one step further claiming the weeks camp MVP prize.
  • This academic year we have also included female players and established a girls team.
  • We now have 6 teams competeing at National League level, u14-u19. This is a long way from having one team two years ago.
  • The U14 have joined forces with Feltham Warriors national league club under the banner of Lampton Warriors where we compete with other national league clubs on the weekends.
  • Currently in the process of establishing a Basketball Academy parents committee.
  • Proposals are being made for a trip to a world class camp in the USA for next July.
  • 7 Members of our Basketball Academy were sent on a Level 1 National Governing Body coaching course and have met to criteria and passed their assessment becoming qualified Level 1 Basketball Coaches.
  • Sky Sports came in to film and interview Academy players alongside Yahya’s pupil of the year triumph. Clips to be shown on Sky Sports in January 2012.
